Antioxidants: The Body’s Defense Squad

Antioxidants are like the body’s own defense squad, protecting our cells from damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that can be produced by normal body processes, as well as from external factors like pollution, smoking, and UV radiation.

Polyphenols are a group of antioxidants found in foods like tea, coffee, and dark chocolate. Green tea is particularly rich in polyphenols called catechins. These antioxidants have been linked to a reduced risk of heart disease and cancer. So, sipping on a cup of green tea in the afternoon is not only a relaxing ritual but also a way to give your body some antioxidant protection.
To get a good dose of antioxidants, fill your plate with a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables, enjoy a handful of nuts, and don’t be afraid to have a small piece of dark chocolate or a cup of tea or coffee. Your body will be better equipped to fight off the damage caused by free radicals.
